Well, I bought this new pontoon boat with a 70HP Johnson (Suzuki DF-70) four stroke. It said to do all the maintenance, especially valve clearance adjustments, at 10 hours in service. I only reached 8 hours before we pulled it out due to low water at the pier. What do I do? Wait until two more hours next year (or the next) to do this in the Spring, or what??? The Suzuki manual says 20 hours, but Johnson says 10. I would think actual engine hours time on the engine for valve seating would be more important than the age of the "new" engine for this. Even if it means waiting a year to do the adjustment.

I would think there is no magic time frame this would have to be done. One manual says 10, the other 20. You could do it now if you want. But I would wait, and don't think of 10 as a magic number unless you are worried about warranty issues down the road. Heck, if you want to do it right at the ten hour mark, bring us the boat. Me and the guys will take it out for a two hour river cruise this weekend, (Maybe brf, mckay and nauti will go) bring it back to the shop and then do your ten hour service. : )- Who will you get to do the service? Did you buy the boat from a dealer at Martin?

Bought it from Kowaliga Marina (Russell) new a year ago. It was a year old model they wanted to move off the floor. Engine has a three year warranty.
