Hi Folks, my apologies if this is not quite the right place for this, but I found no other.
I am from the frozen North, and am considering spending some two months every winter on WPL. Perhaps you can provide some opinions on this feasability.
Are your marinas open all winter? Can boats (houseboat?) be left in the water through the winter - and also used for boating around the lake during the coldest months?
We enjoy 'camping' on our boat at various islands or shorelines, and wonder if such is frowned upon - is there public shoreline where this is ok?.
Lots of other questions, but this should be enough to get a feel for what you all think and know. Many thanks for any/all input. ~ woodie

West Point lake is mediocre at best with all of the Atlanta pollution flowing south. The water level is also way down, as are most all lakes in the south because of the drought. I would not suggest full time lake life on a boat during the winter as it does get rather cold here, but all of the lakes are good for winter fishing and an occasional cruise on warm days (if you can avoid the low water hazards). I'm not sure about rules for houseboats on that lake.

WestPoint does have some full year Marinas with houseboat slips available, Southern Harbor and Highland Marina. The lake is currently down almost 14 feet. There are rules addressing living on a Corp. of Engineers lake, and some marinas are tighter on those than others. Another option is Lake Eufaula about 70 miles south of WPL on the same river. It has access to the Gulf of Mexico and 4 marinas with houseboat slips, the best being LakePoint Marina. There is 250 miles of river and lake to explore and you shouldnt have any trouble over the winter.
