New to the forum and the lake, so first let me say hello and thank you for all the info this site has given me already. My wife and I are prior military and moved down a few years ago, had the luck to find Lake Martin and immediately fell in love with what I think may be the best inland water we have ever seen. To get to the point though, last year we purchased a '92 Monterey 206 Cuddy that was in pretty bad shape cosmetically, after a whole gut and refinish on the interior we have now set our sights on the trailer. Currently it is on a single axle, bunk type trailer, however I would like to change it over to a tandem axle due to weight and the fact that one of the rear spans on the old trailer is starting to twist. Does anyone have any thoughts as to what would be my best bet to either find a used tandem that will fit, or a manufacturer preference on a new trailer. Thank you in advance for all the help.

I have a couple of good used trailors, but niether is tandem axle. I'll see what I can find out. Slo , do you live on the Lake? Or, in Prattville area?

We live in the Prattville area, actually more Millbrook but regardless we are about 10 minutes from you Cat. The distance from the lake is my primary concern, especially with the rear span twisting. In regards to single or tandem, what is your opinion on which would be best, I just figured I was putting a decent amount of weight on that one axle. Spoke with Monterey and they gave me a dry weight of around 3500Lbs. I am far from a expert when it comes to this, so I really appreciate all the help. Had a tire throw the tread on me last year outside of Eclectic, and a hub shred before that. After new rubbers and a new hub I think I am fighting a losing battle with this one. Sadly the neglect from the previous owner has already taken its toll. My wife thinks I am slightly neurotic with all the time I spent trying to beat back the corrosion with a brass wheel, and I think it is about time I hung my head and admitted defeat. Again, you all are greatly appreciated!

Not a previous customer, although I should have been I think with all the times I spent roping the boat back on the trailer this year. As for the trailer I too thought the weight was a bit much. On that note, if anyone has a dealer preference or knows of a tandem that will fit please feel free to contact me with the info. In the meantime I will spend my time hitting refresh and hoping to see a change in the lake level gauge.

Some trailer outlets identify 6,000 lb axels. You may want to look into upgrading your bunks and axel versus the cost of a new trailer. Also figure in the value of selling your current trailer to offset purchase price. I am sure that CATHOUSE could swap out your axel and bunks... I swapped out bunks and hardware on a tandem I had.
