This section of the LM Forum is dead at best.
I know there is a lot of experience with fishing on LM, because we have at least one state record for the largest Crappie, maybe others.
But, there is no talk about what's biting, or where, or why, or nothing.
We've got Bass, Crappie, Bream, Stripers, Catfish, etc., etc. Both sport fish and freezer fish.
I for one would like to see on this site some discussion on how to catch them!!!
Lures, line, rods, reels, depth, temperature, sun, shade, wind, channels, brush piles, rocky points, etc, etc.......
Come on. The lake is plentiful for fish. Help us "Newbies" catch a few.

I agree 100%. I check this forum about every day in hopes to read a fishing report or something. Share the wealth.

Right on point Mack. This would be a true value add to the forum. Problem is, I love to fish, but then all those family obligations get in the way..........

I would like this info, also. Plus, some recipes (other than frying!).. (i can fry the heck out of it, but it's not so good on the hubby's heart)

i agree with you that this site is dead...i grew up on lake martin but have since moved away b/c of work...i like to check to see what is going on in the fishing world on the lake......i love to fish and when i come back to town i like to know what is biting...when..where etc.....some tips i have learned....most fishermen are very secretive about fishing(i am one of them)....start hanging out at your local bait and tackle shops and ask a lot of questions....there will always be one person that likes to help.....crappie this time of the year should really start biting.. shiners, jigs1/16-1/32oz(try different colors) around fallen trees and brush piles..try to locate creek channels...catfish.. channel and yellowcats/flatheads can be caught on cut bait, shiners, and large branch minnows. for the flatheads again find creek channels/ where a branch might be feeding into the lake.you will often catch catfish around brush piles when fishing for crappie...besides crappie flatheads are the best eating fish that comes out of lake martin...most of the white bass and stripers will start moving back in the creeks up the main river....rooster tails(silver and white) bucktail jigs and crankbaits usually work well..spottail minnows are one of the main food sources for fish on lake martin so anything that mimmicks them should help you catch fish....other than that you just have to get out there and fish....fishing changes day to day...time and experience is the best tool you will have wet a hook for me.....good luck!!

cant hardly beat fried fish but i know what your talking about.....grilled stripe is not to bad...
whole fish 5-7lbs(headed and gutted)
inject fish with lemon juice/fill the cavity with lemons and butter and any other spices you like.some wrap in foil...grill until meat is moist but flaky....while grilling make an alfredo sauce adding minced dill and minced onions to the sauce....use the sauce for dipping the fish in or pour over fish on a bed of pasta......i usually try different things

bass filet....get a good size filet and coat with a cajun spice(or what you prefer)....sear in pan on stove top 1min/side.....grate potato like hash browns and cover the filets top and bottom with potatoes and grated cheese on top cook in oven....i never use a clock so i cant give specific time/heat i just go on look and experience i usually try to cook it slow

Mucho thanks for the response.
Your post is exactly what this site needs to keep it going for everybody who loves fishing and visits this site.
Maybe even depates about the virtues of minnows vs. Jigs?? Then, brushpiles vs. dock pilings?? Drifting vs. anchoring??
It will be just plain fun to read what somebody else has tried and how it worked.
Also, the post about how to cook em' is great. For example, I don't know any way to prepare catfish except frying it.
Thanks all.

my grandfather used to smoke catfish when he did a lot of fishing...that was before my time so i have never tried any...although i have baked a lot for my grandfather b/c of health reasons......you can bake or broil whole or filets....i put a little olive oil / melt butter on the fish with black pepper slice lemon and place over the fish squezzing lemon juice over the fish

Like so many others, I love to fish. Obligations get in the way. Living on the lake, I tend to fish from the pier more than I take the boat out. Love catching cats. I get some sweat feed from Floyds Feed N Seed in Dadeville, mostly fill up a 5 gal bucket with seed and then top it with lake water. Let it sit several days in the sun to sour. Then chunk it in an area I want to fish. Within a day and for the next several days, you will catch the fool out of cats. Please fish responsibly. Don't take too many from any one area.
