I have a 5.0 GM motor with a Volvo outdrive. The motor is carberated. It is idling high at about 1100 rpms. What should I be looking at would old gas do this? Senser? Filter causing it to lean out? Thanks

Maybe cable adjustment? Vacuum leak? Could be lots of different things. Tough question.

Sometimes I idle high. Just leave me alone for an hour and I calm down.

I was just thinking out loud. Maybe a vacuum line off, or unplugged? Maybe a worn throttle shaft and air getting in? Just throwing some things out there for you to look over.

linkage could be sticking....see where the cable hooks to your carb...grab
the linkage and give it a twist with your hand and see it that makes it idle down...if so, it could be a sticking cable or linkage...WD-40 might do the trick there...or may have to replace cable.

I'll strike when you least expect it....(and when I am having those rare days where the neurons, protons, photoplasms, cells, and beers are firing correctly and working in sync.)
