Hey guys,

Well we finally have been able to get out onto the water. Being new to the lake we aren't familiar with where to go. We are learning, we've been out for a couple of hours at a time. I need to know where to go to swim, if there is a place where people just hang out. I guess I need to know hot spots. We are right off of Stemley Road. Looking forward to summer when the kids get out of school and we can be at the lake, also meeting new people at the lake.

Thanks guys,
Kellie

I'm in stemley cove which is a great place to just float and swim cause it's off the channel. Your not far from the cliffs which is fun to hang around and watch the kids scare you to deat as they leap of the rock walls. That's just south of stemley bridge a little ways on the left.

KKel, back in clear creek is a couple of pretty good places to sit and swim. Just before Camp cosby and after CC it opens up and the water is calm and good for skiing too.

you can always park by the dam and hang out.

If you go to the rock and want to stay by the rock get a good anchor with about 50ft of rope. the currentt flows pretty good there, I usually drop 2 anchors to stay put.

I am not sure about anywhere past Stemley but would want to know. Do people hang out by I20 or is that just on race weekend?

That must just be around race weekend cuz I don't ever see folks just floating and hanging otherwise up there. It's really shallow up past I20 in a lot of spots. Although if you go on around and go under the rail road bridge and 78, it's pretty nice up around there. That's a ways up though.

I've never seen folks just hanging around the I 20 bridge either. But to be honest, this has been the first race weekend we have stayed here. I usually rent the house for the races but my usual folks didn't come this year.

Kellie and Chris, I'm just a little downstream of you on the Talladega side. We often just swim out off the pier but I do sometimes get concerned on busy weekends. But we usually swim in a group and have several floats and I think we're pretty visable. We have swam almost to the bridge and let the current bring us back.

I can see the rocks from my place if I swim out far enough. Sometimes, I'll cruise down there to see whats happening but I've never anchored or rafted up. Maybe thats something we should all do one weekend?

Chris, which one is Stemly Cove? First slough north of the bridge or second?

I haven't spent much time down near Steve's end of the lake but would like to. There are some interesting areas to explore down there and a few deserted and fishy looking sloughs I would like to cast a hook in. We usually head north to have breakfast at Riverside. When we do go south, it's for lunch at Clear Creek. Patty Melts are good.

Peace,
<><

Stemley Cove is the first cove on the left immediately after you go under the bridge headed north. It's a lot bigger than it first appears from the main channel.

Clear Creek is good for just about everything. Of course, everything taste better after being on the lake, right? Getting down there and back for a burger though will cost a fortune this summer so it might be sparingly. :-)

I've never gone up to Riverside to eat, are you talking about the pancake house or whatever that is up there on the highway?

Poor House used to be a great place to go get barbecue but those people left and the replacements last summer weren't as good in my opinion. Will have to see if they've made any improvements this year.

OK, I know where you are now. I've probably seen you skiing out of there one afternoon last week.

Yes, the pancake house at Riverside is the one I'm talking about. It's old, greasy and sometimes smoky. The service is never great and they only take cash. But darn it's a great breakfast! Like you said, anything you get to by water is good. I've heard there is a seafood place going in at the old hotel there too but don't know if thats true.

Peace,

Hey Guys,

We bought our lake shack last spring, and are SO HAPPY with it. When we closed, there was a "Seafood Shack Restaurant" on Handy Corner near the "The Shack BBQ restaurant". It is right around the corner from us. We loved the Seafood Shack. That owner moved to the old hotel though to get more weekday customers. We went there once last summer. I believe it is now a Steak House of some sort.

Anyone who wants a great breakfast on Stemley Bridge Road should stop by The Kitchen. It is AWESOME. :) Can't get there by boat, but it is wonderful, fast and friendly.

Where is "the Rock" in reference to Lincoln Harbor? We can see part of Lincoln Harbor from our cove, but have not discovered the rock. I hope we get to meet some of you this summer... Gail and Kevin

Hi Gail and Kevin,

The Seafood Shack is the one I'm thinking of. I never ate there but my neighbor brough us some shrimp and other assorted seafood we cooked one weekend from there. I hate to hear it didn't work out in Riverside. I frequent Ths Shack regularly myself but have never been to The Kitchen. Have thought about it several times as I pass it almost daily. It always seems to have a crowd.

Are you in the cove just south of the old Stemly Bridge? If so, you can see the rocks everyone is talking about from there. It's that point just south of Lincoln Harbor.

I guess we need to organize a meet everybody weekend soon. Seems like theres about 5 of us within sight of the bridge. But we gotta include Movinfr8. He's the one that gets things going here.

Peace,
<><

We could all group up at my place, none of the neighbors have any boats in the water and rarely do. So there ends up being 4 or 5 docks around me that me and my kids end up using as our personal playground. :-)

Hey Gail, have you been to any of the softball games lately? I have been back and forth with baseball and softball...... The rock is a fun place to anchor down and hang out. Jordan and my boys enjoy jumping from the rocks. I am good for about one climb and thats it.

I am gone this weekend but maybe everyone can come our and play saturday afternoon before mothers day. We are trying to coax all of the family to coming to the lake and enjoying mothers day.

Anyway, I see the water almost made it to 465 this morning...... Wish I wass there to see it.

Gail and Kevin if you are at the game wednesday look for me. We are leaving for Kentucky Thursday morning so will miss the rest of the games this week.

Its almost time for a summer party!
