My pontoon with 2002 Honda 4-stroke BF130 is running rough after sitting up about a year and half...i would assume that the carbs, jets, filters, vapor separator, fuel pump, lines, or some other weird part is malfunctioning due to the layover. I have been reading about Sea
Foam Auto and Maine additive cleaning out the gunk.......anybody
tried this? Cat, what do you think? Can I do more harm than good?
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Your Honda is fuel injected. you more than likley have a clogged fuel injector or a fouled spark plug. if it ran fine before being put up, it is probably just a clogged injector. if that is the case, just start your motor and crimp the return line for 10 -20 seconds and this should clean the injector.

Thanks, Cat. If the problem continues, I may try to get it over to you...is a pretty good ride from east side of lake but I think I can make it.

it is the grey fuel line comming out of the top of the fuel rail that holds/feeds the injectors.

Personally, I believe that if spikingpsi of your fuel/injection system by cutting off the return unused fuel is the proper way to "clean out" an injector, it would be supported by your owners manual. The pulse width of your injector, if so equipped is measured in miliseconds, and designed to work under certain widths and fuel psi. A more simple way to check your injectors would be to ohm themout, find the bad/stopped up one and have it cleaned or replaced. Assuming you have an injector problem to begin with!!!!! What is wrong with a simple and normal service and tune up??? Yall don't beat me up on this one, I am not an outboard person so to speak. I just don't like shooting holes in the sky, trying to hit the moon.

I am guilty of doing it on my personal boat. EFI HP500s. I just dont like doing it. Merc. MEFI systems use around 38 psi. Did it on a Pro-Charged engine once, spiked the psi to about 100 for what seemed like 1-2 seconds and had to replace two Orings on the rail side of two different injectors. Now BIGFOOT, call Clearwater or myself and get the thing fixed. You dang near got a flame thread started on the Boat Maintenance forum.!!!!

Yes, Cat...you make perfect sense...as always...I thought I would put in new plugs before I give up...but now I see that I need a special tool to remove those DEEEEP socket plugs...these new machines have practically put me out of the jackleg repair business...thanks to both of you for really good feedback....CAT you may see me dragging this sucker over to you soon...been wanting to go back to Bass Pro again...I love that store...and the restaurant.
