I have read many of your posts and it seems like you certainly know your business so if you don't mind I have a couple of questions. I need information on what type of prop I need to purchase in order to get better performance from my boat. I have a 2003 Crownline BR210 with a 5.0 liter engine. We changed the original aluminum prop to a stainless 21' prop that we already had. It runs good once it planes off with a top speed of 48- 50 mph, but it is terrible coming out of the hole. Very sluggish and slow to plane off. Do you think a 19' prop would be better?
What are your thoughts on what I have told you?
I'm sure I will need to call your shop to talk more but just wanted to touch base with you on here. Thanks in advance for your advice. Steve

What was the original prop in inches of pitch. (that is what the 21, 19 etc. means). A 21 pitch prop travels 21 inches through the water (minus a little slip of say 10-15%) When/if you went up on pitch from what you had before you probably lost a lot of "hole shot", as well as wide open throttle engine rpms. Anyway, I guess the definition of performance needs to be addressed first. Do you mean all around performance, or simply top speed performance. If you want "all around performance" I probably would opt for a 4-Blade 20", or maybe a 4-Blade 18". The four blade props get you up and going much faster, but you may sacrifice a little top end>>>>>key word here is maybe. You also did not mention your wide open engine rpms. On your 5.0 V-8 you need to keep it around 4800 or close to it. You are welcome to call me, and I will share any information I have with you. I will also look around and see what I have in the way of props you might want to try. I know there are several here in the 28"-35" range, but I will locate you something you can try, before you start putting $$$$$ out there for something that may not work for you. Thanks for your confidence. Sorry for the long post.

Thanks a lot for the information and I will be in touch soon.
We think the original prop was 21 inches but not sure. It is probably in the boathouse somewhere so we will check it out. I ran the boat full throttle and trimmed up pretty good with a load in it late Saturday afternoon and we were running 46-48 mph turning 4800 rpms. I would think that is pretty good. The biggest problem I have with the performance is with the "hole shot". It is always very sluggish and when pulling a tube it tends to bog down on the sharper turns..
From what I have read I felt like we for sure needed to go to a 4 blade prop but not sure what pitch. Sorry so long. Thanks again.

My father had a variable pitch prop on his boat. Gave good power out of the hole, and opened up for better top speed. Not a cheap remedy, but it worked well why he had it. Havent seen many of these so they are either too expensive, or do not work well long term....

I've never heard of that but it sounds interesting.
My guess would be that it is probably rather expensive.
I'll check into it thanks.

I've a prop repair and customizing shop on Lake Harding. I can change the leading edge to a 19 pitch (hole shot) and progress to a 21 and increase your cup or add a cup also. I don't know how far that is for you but if you're interested let me know.

That sounds interesting. What is the price range on a job of that nature?

Depends on the condition and finish of the prop but if it's in good shape I can do a good deal for you. I'll be best if we can talk one on one about how your boat runs. Most people don't know about all that can be done to a prop. It's kinda a "dark trade" but I can make them handle. Some of the answers I need is about the "hole shot" is it bow up or stern down before you plane? I can also put cupping in or double cup the blade. I would recommend the satin finish and I can send a pic if you like. You can call me at night at 334-749-6689 or day 334-293-8944.
