most are real simple. they have a rubber hose that connects a small hole in either a pickup or the lower unit of an outdrive or out board.

the main reason they quit working is the rubber tube gets disconnected or the hole in the pickup gets stopped up from junk you hit.

you can take a small drill bit and twist it into the hole with your fingers and that will usually clear it.

the drill bit can be hard to hold on to and twist since they are so small...especially
if they are wet....a trick that works well...find a small rubber grommet and slid over the end of the drill bit...it has to fit snug on the bit....makes the job a lot easier if you have a piece of wood in the hole...plus, if you store the bit in the boats glove box...its a lot easier to find the drill bit with the rubber grommet on it

If you can get to the back of the unit remove the "hose" (pitot tube) and blow into it. It should be obvious whether or not its clogged. If you can easily blow air through the hose then your guage is shot. Ensure that you get a good seal when you put it back on, and if you are awaiting a new guage leave the old one on. At speed water will be forced through the pitot tube (pickup) and out the other end possibly causing a very bad day (water on electronics/shor circuit/ etc.).

If you ever start doing machine work and cc-ing heads, I will work for free 2 days a week.

Also would like to learn how to do computer modifications to EFI and how to do variable cam timing
