Has anyone ever tried to catch gar on Lake Martin? I would like to try my hand at using a shad sized length of rope and tangle up their teeth, and I would like to know what kind of gar population Martin has, and where the best spots to find them are.

I've never seen a Gar on Lake Martin, but I'm sure they are there. I have a friend on Lake Mitchell that just got a Big Green Monster fishing light and it really attracts the Gar.

I grew up catching and shooting gar with .22s on MS river oxbows, but after hundreds of fishing trips on Martin I've never seen one. There are probably some in the lake, but I think you'll have a hard time targeting them. If I were going to try I'd go to shallow bays in the creeks, e.g., the upstream side of the Blue Creek bridge.
