I have had trouble keeping bait on my hooks while fishing for catfish. Can anyone
suggest a bait that will stay on the hook. I have tried worms and livers. Possibly
I am not putting the bait on properly. thanks

My bet - turtles are getting your bait. I run into this problem all the time. No simple solution for it.

I have had awesome success using the cheapest hot dogs you can buy. Cut a piece off just about a half inch in length and use a hook just big enough to insert through the skin side and bury the hook. No mess on your fingers like when using livers or worms. A $1.49 pack of hot dogs goes a long way. Also having good success using the expandable 12 to 14 ft. fiberglass bream/crappie poles vs. the rod and reel. I'm using a float with a built in sinker and fishing about 3 to 4ft deep off the sandbars. Hope that helps.

Man, I've gotta' try that.
We always fish for cats off the dock (about 8 feet deep) with wigglers or nightcrawlers or "stinkbait" in a pinch. All these are messy to handle, especially the stinkbait when my wife makes me wash up with Lysol outside before I can kiss her. But, boy, does she love fried fresh catfish!.
I would not think that a hotdog would put out enough scent to attract a cat. But, I'll try it. And, bait shops are getting more scarce by the day in my area of the Lake.

Hey Mack, You may want to go back aways on the fishing forum for a home made catfish attractor mentioned by "KIngfish". You can do a search under catfish attractor.
His post will give you all the details, but it involves simply putting a pvc pipe next to your dock with plenty of holes drilled in it and cheap dry dog food as a filler. The dog food leaches out of the pvc through the holes and draws in the catfish.
I am going to try it one of these days.

One of my neighbors uses the PVC/dogfood method, but she just wants to catch bream.And, it works, and she catches them regularly.Fishes shallow. Maybe I'll try it and fish deep??

Raw steak... Had some with freezer burn and a little left over we couldn't eat. I was surprised how fast the big cats were eating it up!
