I posted reports from a couple of striper trips on LM this week at:

I noticed the area you have been fishing is badly stained fron the rain. How does this effect the bite? Do the stiper move to clearer water or does it not bother them?

I don't have much success on stripes when the water gets too muddy. I talked to a guy that lives just south of the Alex City bridge this morning, and he said it's pretty stained, but not muddy. I plan to do most of my fishing down river from the state park this weekend unless water clarity improves. Even though the storm dumped a bunch of water, I don't think the stain will spread all the way to Wood's Island.

It's not really the stripers that don't like the muddy or stained water it's the shad. The shad like clear cool, well oxgenated water. The stripers are going to follow the shad. I have caught stripe in stained water but there were shad there too. Find the balls of shad and you will find Stripe.

One more thing. The shad like the clear water because that is where there food is. Shad feed on microscopic algae and the sun light does not penetrate the stained water therefore there food does not grow or survive. When you find shad in muddy or stained water it is because they are trapped there from a recent rain. Finding stripe involves patterning shad as much as the stripe.
