Our "family compound" is up Little Kowaliga Creek past Real Island, and that is where I do all of my fishing. How far up Little Kowaliga can you catch stripers? I have never caught one up there(although the white bass are plentiful), and I was wondering if they go that far away from the main river.

I honestly don't know that part of the Lake, but intend to learn it when I get time. Right now I do all my fishing between the Kowaliga bridge and the railroad trestle bridge above the 280 bridge. However, I hear there's good striper fishing over there. Get out in 30-60 ft of water and look for signals on the depth finder like I showed in one of my recent posts, drop some big live bait and see what happens.

About 30 feet is the best depth I can find directly in front of the cabin at this level. Sometimes, I have seen some good schooling activity on days like today, but I don't know if the fish are stripes or something else. Things might not be ideal for stripes that far up, but I know a few places between Real Island and Kowaliga that should produce, if I had the right boat for bigger, deeper water when the wind is howling. Actually, I have only caught one stripe on the lake, and it was in Big Kowaliga in the narrows. I would like to catch more, but running a jonboat from Real Island to the 280 bridge just wouldn't work for me. My guess would be from Real Island down would be better, and I can handle that if the conditions are right.

I'll get over there sometime during the holidays and try to find stripes. I've been wanting to explore over there for some time. I'll post if I find them.
