Anyone,
I just bought a used bayliner with a mercruiser 3.0 engine and outdrive. I want to make sure in our climate that the engine is free from freezing.

I am told there is a drain plug to open and drain the water from the block and then pump it out of the bilge with the pump. Where is the plug? I don't have the owners manual.

Should the foot be stored straight up or tilted out of the water?

Where can I have it serviced? I live on Yellow Creek.

Regards,
DIM

Don't know where Yellow Creek is but if it's anywhere around here don't worry about winterizing. You may want to start looking for a block.

Thanks ed!
The boat is currently stored indoors in Florida. I am moving the boat to Smith lake in the next few weeks and will want to take a few laps around the lake before tieing it up and need to know where the drain plugs are,

If it is a newer Boat the plugs will mostlikely be Blue Plastic with a wingnut hande made onto them. I am not sure about on the 3.0 but, Most V8's will have them on the sides of the engine,on the exhuast manifold and around the thermostat Housing.

The boat is a 2003 Bayliner 175 but thanks for the tips.

From what I am told from talking to my mechanic is that if you have an I/O and leave the foot in the water the block will not freeze. Actually did it last year during the drought with my pontoon over the winter and sure enough everything was OK come Spring.

Cat can tell you whether the above is in fact true or not.

Now if you take the boat out of the water totally different story, have to pull the drain plugs and leave the foot all the way down so water drains out. Also need to pull the water pump hose and drain them as well. That is at least what I do on my Mastercraft.

Might work for you but years ago I left one with the foot in the water and the exhaust manifold cracked. Boat sank.

I was thinking the same thing. I've heard of stories like that, but never witnessed it first hand.

Thanks for the tip I found the blue hoses and disconnected them and dropped them to the bottom of the sump and water drained out of both.

Is this all that is required or do I need to refill engine with the pink antifreeze?

I intend to use the boat in the winter.

Regards,
Don
