Ordered the Lowrance 27 LCX online yesterday and all the 'do dads' .. Recommendations here (thanks Lee) and research made it a logical choice for my price range and needs.. Features all the stuff I picked up from y'all.. color, software input,integrated gps with external antenna .. have put several units on boats over the years .. hints about transom mount?? thru the hull stuff is a bit much for this rookie.

Great unit for the price! I would recommend mounting the unit with the external skimmer transducer that comes with it. You tend to lose more fish and performance from your unit with the shoot thru the hull style transducer. Different style boats require different placements for the transducer as the instructions that will hopefully come with the unit will illustrate. It is a fairly easy installation for this unit but make sure if you have a top on your boat that you mount the gps receiver out in the open where it can have a clear signal to the sky. I had to mount my receiver on my center console on top of my t top to keep from having interference and losing my gps position. I am sure you will love this unit and if you have any problems with the install feel free to ask.

To me a Transducer mounting bracket is very important. It seems no matter how many transducer you have mounted on every kind of transom you never get it on the first try. They mount with just 4 holes and then you can move your Transducer as many times as is neccesary. Bass Pro Shop carries them. Item #38-537-954-00 $12.99 plus S&H. Good luck.
