To my knowledge there is nobody on the lake that sells shad. You will have to net them yourself. The next best bait would be to use black salties. Fish Tales bait and tackle in Alex city sells them or you can order online.

Fairly certain the bait shop north out of alex city (on the right heading toward sylacauga and just past 'sure shot') sells them.. But they are tought to keep alive.. I bought a pound (about 18 fish) of black salties there a month ago and thought $15 was pricey; however, they are still alive in a fish basket as we speak.. Tough little devils!!
