Subject:   any stripers in Sandy Creek?
Date:   4/16/2009 4:12:50 PM

beginner fisher with company coming down this weekend and only have access to a jon boat with 15hp & trolling motor so figure I am retricted to our cove. Do the stripers come into the coves from the big water? Can you catch them without planers, sideboards and other mechanisms I am not familar with. Yes, I know I will go with a guide next time but any advice would be appreciated as I know there is a ton of experience out there.

Your best bet will be to night fish around the green monster fishing lights. Three are alot in Sandy Creek, including ours. Throw a bucktail and let it sink for 5 to 10 seconds depending on water depth, reel and then hang on. You should catch some stripers and spots. I would'y bother with day fishing with live bait. Your wasting your time if you don't have a good fish finder.

If you want to go during the day, get some deep running crankbaits that look good to you - blue and silver work well (# depends on the number of rods and how many you plan to loose). Use your regular motor on idle, put the baits out 15-20 yards behind your boat, get a cold one, and troll around in 10-20 feet of water especially on the deep points. You will probably catch some stripe and spots but with the cold ones and the warm sunshine you really won't care much by the end of the day. Of course, you could REALLY FISH and cast, and cast, and cast but it is hard to drink cold ones while casting.

Thanks for the laugh and the advice - will do everything suggested - including the cold one as I do have plenty more experience with that than fishing

Thanks for the information and there will be another green monster in Sandy Creek as I just bought one. Hope it works as good as many of the posters mentioned
