Anyone got anymore info on the rumored 53 pounder. I would love to see a pic.

Heard the rumor myself at Harbor Pointe yesterday. The word I got was that it was caught off the bank in front of Wind Creek State Park, but that's unsubstantiated.

I'll tell ya what. I don't think it will be to long before a new state record will be set. I do believe ole Stripernut knows that and we will be seeing stripernuts record in the game book. I'm behind ya stripernut, go get'em.

I agree that the record will likely be broken soon, but it will probably be Lee Gantt who does it. He lives and breathes chasing big stripes. But one of us might get lucky.

Tight Lines!

If anyone one is going to do it, I think it will be Bill Vines up on Smith.

Fished and traded secrets and fishing holes with bill vines and Bruce holcumb for fifteen years before moving down here. I second bill vines catching the record, he is the best in the country, except he fishes the wrong lake, the record will probably come from martin and if it doesent happen in the next few weeks it will have to be next year in my opinion.

I have also heard the stories about this mystery fish but need to see it weighed on certified scales before I can personally believe all of the hooplaw. As far as the record goes I think we still have a little time left due to all of the rain this spring and am still looking for him but cannot get off of the 30's here lately as I had a 32, 35, 35 and 37 this week. Bill Vines is a great fisherman and a friend of mine but i don't think that he will be able to do it up on smith because of where the biggest fish live up there. There have been a couple of fish shocked up over 60 pounds up there but to getting to them is very tricky. On top of that the water in smith is so clear that it presents another challenge for getting that one big fish to bite. It has been my experience that the biggest fish are a one time encounter and everything has to go right to get that monster but then there is the ole luck factor that is always lurking around too!

this may be too much info but... in south carolina they were working on damming up santee and cooper rivers around 1940 ish. they werw at the stage fo cutting the timber below the waer line. WWII started and they were worried about enemy subs coming up the river so they finished the dam and filled it. after the war some people started catching saltwater stripe. they were still going up stream to spawn. that was by accident and the oldest landlocked stripe and the record for the state is 55lbs. It's going to be a crap shoot for whoever is in the right place at the right time. I hope I'm in the boat with Wes and John when they catch it.

Wrong. The GA state record was just broken again by the same man who did it just years ago. There have been several fish over 60lb(about 10) that have been shocked up around the state and those are just the ones that we know about. The fish are there. The crap shoot is correct up to a point but to catch a state record you have to fish where the state record swims and must be able to catch big fish period.

I seen the picture yesterday that was in the newspaper and that stripe looked more like 35lbs. than 53lbs. I think it was a misprint.
