I only stripe fish, but last weekend when I was leaving union boat ramp three nights in a row I picked up schools of fish (not shad) holding 20 feet deep in 40 feet of water. I fished with large shad there and had no hits so I have ruled out stripe. It could be small stripe or white bass but I believe it is crappie. If any of you put in at union boat ramp at night and have a fish finder you trust let me know how many you catch. They were about even with the buoys.

You may need to upgrade your fishfinder. You should have been able to tell that those where crappie on the finder and not stripe. A good quality finder will allow you to distinguish between different types of fish that way you are not wasting your time fishing over schooling carppie or spots. What fish finder are you using?

I have a Humminbird 997c si combo. I dont think I can upgade, but I might not have all the settings correct. I also have a Lowrance 510 c on the front of my boat but again the settings might not be perfect for differentiating fish.

That fishfinder should be more than enough. You should be able to tell the difference between stripes and other fish. Join the Lake Martin Stripers group on Facebook and you can see pics from the 1100 we use and what stripers look like on it. The arcs are huge and deep red compared to other species of fish.

Those pics look good, My arcs dont show up as defined. usually half arcs and straight lines with not much red in them. If you know any details on what your settings are on the graph (sensitivity and anything else that you want to share it would be appreciated.

Also checked out the pictures and joined y'alls group. Running an X-37 pretty much on factory settings, sensitivity tweaked a bit depending on conditions.. Assume you are showing 2 or 4X zoom in the pictures??

Man I love the new humminbirds. I have a 7?7 ci. It does the job. That makes me want to go back out right now....and my boat is here at the farm. at least it won't sink.
