Fished hard for stripers, from Almisco to Madwind.. Saw nothing, on Lowrance, caught nothing.. help me out with the pattern, if y'all are sharing.. Will be back on the lake at sunrise.. Crappie bite is off, so out looking for the 'bad boys.'

Here is an old stand by trick. Put your rods down not to far and wait for BeBe Rae to come check you out. Then follow him around until he finds some one else who has found fish.

In addition, have a freezer full up with crappie... and the catfish bite thru the summer.. no probllem, except the 35 foot walk to the boat house and the price of night crawlers.. ..

Like you, I am rather ignorant on where to find stripers. I did enjoy fishing off my dock last evening over the submersible lighs. I must of caught a couple of dozen large mouth, spots, and small strippers. None were large fish, but I enjoyed playing with them with ultralight tackle. They all seemed to like the plastic minnows you can get from Walmart. I had luck with the purple ones you rig yourself and the ones that come in a three pack that are already pre-rigged and have the hook upside down and the point at the top of the lure.

I have been seeing some larger strippers early in the morning aound 4:OO AM over the lights. I hung one Thursday morning and had him going for about 5 minutes until he snapped my line. I later figured out I had the drag just a little tight for the line I was using. I was certainly not using ultralight then but medium heavy with YO-ZURI HYBRID Fluorocarbon in 10 lb. test (supposed to be equivalent to 19 lb test line). It was fun even it I did not land him.

Your best bet this time of year is night fishing around the dam or the bridge. You can also fish docklights that are located in very deep water. As the water warms the oxygen gets depleted and both the shad and stripe will head to deeper cooler waters. The area around the dam is the best place to fish in the summer because all the current flow from the entire lake heads there which brings in more oxygen rich water. I give up on stripe in the summer because they are not as active and there is too much boat traffic. In my opinion the best time to fish is Oct-May. I prefer the colder months (Jan-Feb) because there are hardly any boats out.

Took a few guys out this morning for a half day trip and put a 23 and a coulpe of 10 lbs in the boat.

Do a word search on your p.c. (Striper bass fishing by season)
Jim Paramore has a good fishing article on stripe fishing during
all four seasons of the year,on Laake Martin.
Keep your hooks wet.....

You might also want to take a few lessons from a local guide. I've fished with several on Martin over the years and always learned something new. I recommend Wes Wood. He's a real pro and willing to teach others some of the techniques from his play book.

Good luck!
