Subject:   Advice on 1997 Sea Doo GTX
Date:   6/7/2009 12:09:50 AM

I'm looking at a 1997 Sea Doo GTX to possibly purchase. I do not know the hours on the boat nor have I put it in the water to check out. Does anyone have any advice/recommendation on the 1997 GTX? Is it easy or hard to track down parts for this model? Do any mechanics on the lake specialize in Sea Doos?

Any and all help appreciated.

I've owned pretty much every brand of pwc. and had good luck out of most of them. The GTX hull design is far above any other that I've ridden. I've got a 2007 yahama VX110 deluxe right now....there is no doubt that I will never stray from seadoo again.( NOT THAT THE Yamaha is a bad machine, but the hull design is still far behind a 12 year old gtx)...Just remember, buying anything used has its risk. And its all but impossible to know when a pwc engine is going to fail. they usually run perfect up to the time they suck a piece of metal out of the crankcase and ruin a cylinder. Then its a total rebuild or nothing at all. Of course thats just my take on it...and I'm psycho...lol Good luck!

Find out how many hours are on the boat,The GTI has the 717 Rotax 85hp engine, quite possibly the best Seadoo engine ever made, there are some issues with the fuel system as us DA Americans are running alcohol in our fuel ,the fuel lines on the Seadoo were not made for this kind of usage and will need to be replaced.Email me directly if you have any more questions.thanks
