I've been researching.... it surprised me to find out there are dozens of brands and a wide range of prices. Any favorites out there?

I have a ton of oak I recently cut and I'm even considering making my own.

jlazc - There are a lot of natural lump charcoals out there. I have tried several different types. Royal Oaks didn't seem to burn as hot or as long and several of the cheaper brands seem to break down very quickly meaning shorter life. I have not found any that can beat Big Green Eggs lump.

Let me know if you find something that can compare and is cheaper!

Good thing about this is that . . . the research is fun!
