What is the research to show this on Lake Martin? This website is good and all and provides some very good factual information but is not and let me repeat that is not Lake Martin specific. Auburn is doing a study on delayed mortality starting today on the lake to see what the truth really is. Our lake is a lot different from others in many ways from infertility to how the thermocline forms in the summer and etc. The main thing that should be taken from this is yes a lot of stripers are killed due to various reasons and the mortality rates definetly go up during the summer. What we don't know if what percentage of released fish actually live and how long. I wonder if the size of the fish with the larger ones having more of a lactic acid build up during a fight determines how well the fish will be able to go back down?

good points lee, after reading the title I posted online I need to make my intentions for posting this clear. I practice catch and release unless I am fishing with clients. I posted this so that some people could read it and maybe they would fish until they have their limit and then go home. In the summer don't catch 15 fish and let 13 of them go to watch them struggle to swim back down. After the auburn results are published, if they show that stripes die in the summer after being caught then it is up to us sportsmen to help. Even if it means pushing for a no stripe fishing law during certain times of the year. But that's a whole different can of worms.
