Subject:   Question on fluid level...
Date:   6/29/2009 2:23:55 PM

I have a 2004 Odyssey 4.3 Mercruiser in/outbord tritoon. When you open the little hatch under the back seat, you see the (I believe it says lower end oil..or something like that) with the fill line. It is tight there on the right with a black top. What does that go to..and more important, mine is low....so what type of fluid goes there?

I am getting the beep,delay... beep,,,delay...beep, and was told to make sure that wasn't low...which it is. Thanks for any assistance.

That is your outdrive fluid reservoir. If it is low, it will sound an alarm. Simply add a good quality 90w gear lube. If it goes down to low level again you'd better check things out (or have it done) a little closer. Prolly a good idea to do a visual of the engine compartment at the beginning of every boating day, just to check things out. Next time you hear an alarm going off for some reason, it may be a little too late. :0

Subject:   So, fluid checks for dummies

So, fluid checks for dummies.....besides this, and the oil dip stick, (all gauges work and everything looks normal)...would a pontoon have any powersteering fluid, trim fluid to check?? I promise I am going to read the manual...when I get a chance:>) thanks a ton. But, like everything in life, when people understand that you know something...we will continue to as questions.

That is certainly not what I meant. I was just offering a suggestion that may save you some time and $$$$$ in the future. Really.! Just a good gandering of sorts is always a good thing. Kinda like if you'd have said >>>"I've noticed my fluid level going down on the clear bottle with the black cap over the last month, and now I have a beeper going off". Then we could discuss a possible leak somewhere and address it NOW! Sorry if I offended you in anyway! I hate to see someone loose a day on the water with friends and family. I'll help you anyway I can. Let me know if you need anything. Fill it to the full line and keep a good eye on it.

Respectfully,
Steve

No need to apologize for this or any of your comments. Reading a manual when you first buy a boat sorta makes sense. It is like the old Fram commercial "Pay me now or pay me later"!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was a shot at myself. Now days, we just want to turn the key and go. I just left the manuals at the lake and I am in B'ham.....but, I will read shortly. We all appreciate your knowledge and help. Thanks.

Dash? Wasn't that one of the actors that came calling on Ellie Mae? Dash Riprock or something like that. Or maybe that was the Flintstones....lol.
