OK I'm bumfuzzled.

Was given a '96 SeaDooSPX to use for parts. Seems it had run into a pier and had a hole in the hull. I needed the motor out of it to replace one that had thrown a rod. Long story short, the hole in the hull wasn't that bad so I patched it up and she runs great except....

If it's on the trailer, I can do anything to it and it cranks and runs great. But if I fuel it on the water, it will not start again until I clean or replace the plugs. Acts and smells flooded, lots of gas fumes.

The local shop says the carbs need to be rebuilt and they might be right. But it sure does run great (until it needs fuel) for a machine that needs carb work. Anybody got ideas?

Thanks,
<><

Great minds think alike...

Tried that yesterday. Waited until I knew it would hold 5 gallons and not over fill. Same result.

I went down this morning to see if it would start after sitting overnight. No luck and the gas smell is still pretty strong. It's raining on Logan Martin now but it should be over soon. I'll haul it out and see what happens next. Would still like some other suggestions.

Peace,

I have a '94. There was a period there '97 or '98 that something similar would happen to mine. I thought changing spark plugs was correcting the problem. Took it to Terry (who was then in Montgomery, but now in Central) and he found a cracked pipe from gas cap to tank. When putting gas in the sea doo the fumes were escaping through the crack, thus "flooding" the entire unit. Taking the seat off for a while was actually helping, not the spark plug change. Anyway, he corrected the problem, I later got a recall letter on it, and got reimbursed. Yours may be totally different but you might check that.

Wow, that was spot on Lakngulf. Except mine was a crack where the neck of the tank is. I have JB Welded it and it's drying now. But I smelled the strong gas smell whenever I would fuel it and thought something like that was happening. I also had gas in the bilge when I would tow it.

Does anybody have a problem leaving it in the water for a day or 2 at a time? I'm on the main channel so it gets swamped from the wakes. I don't a lift...yet.

Thanks again. You get a prize I guess.

Peace,

Hope it runs great for you. I still LOVE jumping waves with my little sea doo. The big ones are nice for the ride, but the little ones give you the fun

Don't take the chance on that ,the fuel tank recall is still active ,take it to the dealership of your choice and they will put in a new tank for free.JB weld softens when in constant contact with fuel and to my knowledge it will not hold on the rotomolded polyethelene plastic the fuel tank is constructed of.BTW this is Terry at the shop in central hi ya'll!
