I just bought a 1998 sea doo that has been sitting up about 2 years. I put in new gas and a new battery. I was able to get it cranked yesterday and at times, it ran fine. Then it started sputtering like it wasn't getting enought fuel. I was thinking it could be a fuel filter or possibly a fuel pump. Also, I saw where some of the sea doos made in the 90s had faulty grey fuel hoses that seem to break down. Does anyone have any ideas before I take in to the dealership and spend a bunch of money? Thanks.

I had the same situation and had the carbs cleaned. If it sat for 2 years the carbs could get junked up or you picked up some trash from the tank/fuel lines. I used Westplate marine off of 63 in Eclectic..if your in Bham dont use the Big #1 they will rip you off.

What type of Sea Doo is this?

since it has been sitting up, make sure there is no water in the gas tank. The water settles to the bottom of the tank so if there is any in there it will be picked up. If you are not sure, if you can get a siphon hose to the lowest part of the tank, and pull a little bit of gas out of in into a clear jug....if it has any water in it you will be able to see it then.....Just something to try, if you havent already.. good luck

I had a friend who told me he always used Gumout in his SeaDo after it had been sitting up for the winter. He swore by it. I started doing it and I think it really worked.

You might want a second opinion but I would run a couple of bottles through and see if it clears up before seeking service.

The danger of continued running of a machine that isn't running right and guessing at what the real problem is it could be running extremely lean and silently destroying the engine. Seen it too many times, after it's too late. If you're on Logan Martin, the only mechanic I'd take it to is at Poor House Marina.

Here is the skinny on the fuel line issue, the fuel lines are not defective per say,the problems showed up when we started putting 10% ethanol in our fuels, thes particular fuel lines were not meant for use with alcohol fuels. So what is happening is the inside of the fuel lines is breaking down, that not only shows up in the fuel filter on the front of the boat but it also clogs up the filters inside the carbs. There are no commercial available products to remedy this and here is why.You have a section of fuel line going from the fuel filter to the carbs, this section of fuel line is the longest on the boat and is full of fuel at all times,so what happens is any product you use will only loosen up the tar like substance and wash it straight into the carbs. When it gets to the carbs there are tiny filters in the carbs that sit directly in the fuel supply hole going to the needle and seats,so once thiese filters stop up its the end of the line as it creates quite a fuel obstruction. The only cure for this is to clean the carbs, fuel valve and all related fitting and replace every piece of fuel line on the boat, the only piece that does not get replaced goes to the tank vent and never has fuel in it.I do about four to five sets of carbs and fuel lines a week on average here,if I can be of help let me know.
