I have 2005 Mercury Optimax 150. Anyone good suggestions on good mechanics. I was using Airport Marine in Bham..but that is a haul from Lake Martin.

CATBOAT, i was told to ask your opinion on the volvo vs. mercruiser i/o engines.

My opinion is just that. I prefer Merc., only because I am very familiar with them. Most often than not, the base engines themselves are very similar. Although, Volvo is good equipment also. The basic design, as far as location of water pumps, alternators, shifting mechs, the way the exhaust are very different. They have different operating software on the newer ones as well. One thing I will stress to you if you are basing a buying decision on these manufacturers.... If it is for a performance application the Merc. is hands down the only way to go. There are many upgrades and accessories available for Merc.
