I have read all the manuals and checked all fluids. I have a 4.3 Mercruiser inboard/outboard on a pontoon. One last question...on the coolant (blue knob)..when I start to turn the knob(open it), fluid starts running out of the bottom of the engine. It is like I am turning a faucet on. What am I missing? thanks.

If I'm not mistaken, that will be your winterization control to open all the openings to drain the block and manifolds of water for winter lay-up. 1 control for all. The danger with that system is IF it doesn't open 1 of the drains and water stays in that portion of the block or manifold, it freezes and cracks. Seen it time and time again when I was turning wrenches.

Unless you have a closed cooling system (I have never seen one on a 4.3) you don't have any "Check" for cooling level. It is more likely than not raw water cooled. Small blue plastic plugs are located in several places on and around the engine and coolers. They are to drain raw water from the engine and its components. Leave them be until you are ready to winterize.
