what is the best way to bring the shine back in your old boat. i know it can be done, but not sure what to use first before waxing. anyone with any knowledge of this?

If it is bad you have to wet sand it. If you don't know what you are doing and you try to wet sand you will screw it up beyond repair.

Call Cat. He can do it or tell you how. I have seen boats that he has done and they look like new.

There is a lot of good information on the net. If it is faded pretty bad I would suggest wet sanding with 400 or 600 grit first and then go to 800, then 1200, and then polishing compound and buff. Then wax after you can see yourself in the surface.

I was strating to wonder if you made it home from the lake this past weekend. It is not like you to not post for four days...

I am looking at heading down in about three weeks.... maybe four. i hope to get over to Prattville. I would like to check out your shop. If I head that way I will be staying in the Marina Marin area... I hope that is convienent to get to P'ville.

Before using sandpaper I suggest you go to West Marine and check out a compound to remove oxidation. It should turn to white and then you buff it as others have written. That should remove the oxidation or dull coating on the boat. Then after you see a nice shine use a boat wax.

Try a small section with the compound to see if it works before you consider sanding. You need to be real careful when you start sanding the gelcoat on your boat. I have been able in the past to restore some weathered boats with compound.

Still trying to work out the details.. Sending kid off to camp Sunday, for the week. Then School starts here. iShe says I can't come without her! Don't blame her either! i have approval from relatives that live there, so that is done. Probably threee weeks away.

Thanks for all of your help with impellers and such... Your knowledge is really valuable to so many on here.
