I went outside...cold, wet, just miserable...so here I sit at my 'puter sporting a major caffeine high and itchy keyboard fingers thinking of what I am sure I have learned in my life...the answer came..NOTHING! But here are some things that I think I have learned recently:
1. Alabama is a very good football team and deserving of playing in the championship game. 2. LSU is a very good football team and deserving of playing for the BCS championship.
3. The BCS is totally screwed-up. A team should not be penalized for going undefeated and required to prove themselves, once again, in the conference championship game. Also, a team should not be rewarded for losing a game in timely fashion thereby winning the "rocking chair" position and getting an early start on rest and healing. The BCS ranking formula pretends to produce a champ in the most accurate way possible...but the two human polls are steeped in bias and the computer factor allows the basement weirdo to sit there in his underwear, puffing on a cigar, and manipulating the computer frantically trying to keep the BCS from falling totally on its face. A playoff system would seem more fair to the teams at the top but would not eliminate the "bias" element...and would pose a real hardship if teams were required to play more than the 13-14 games now required. Players get beat-up too much already...and they ARE students with many responsibilities other than football. I guess I would favor a +1 system over a return to the old AP/UPI polls. Either would be better than the BCS.
4. South Carolina is a very good football team and has the absolute best touchdown music of any stadium in the country! After each touchdown, the sound crew launches the playing of Sandstorm by Darude which seems to elevate the crowd enthusiasm and casts a daunting pale on the other team...it seems to reinforce the notion that they are losing.
5. Auburn won every game they were supposed to win but I am not convinced that Mosely is the man at QB. I think they kicked Trotter to the curb way too soon. I also think they should have taught Frazier more than one or two plays this year. He is obviously very talented but the defense was usually very prepared for anything he was asked to do.
6. I cringe everytime players dump a barrel of Gator Aid. That stuff has to be really sticky. If I were a coach, I would forbid it....see that is why I am a keyboard idiot and not a Big-Time college coach! Well, the caffeine has worn off so I will go back outside.
