Otters have hair/fur head to tip of tail. It is hard to tell diffrence in the water between the two. If you have muskrat which i suspect nothing plastic or rubber within reach of a muskrat is safe. Many boats have sunk due to these critters. They also have caused the purchase of many transducers. Otters are not know for liking plastic. Wrap your exposed transducer wires with heavy duty aluminum foil. A word of caution dont cover transducer wire with woven stainless steel on a pontool as it will corode and eat away at the aluminum toon.
