We bought in 1985 and count ourselves lucky and very fortunate from that Jim Walter shack to our now retirement house.  Never thought the appreciation in value could be so costly in the property taxes, insurance, and upkeep as to straining our fixed income.  From that initial $43k cabin to our now 1.5 million house.  But good planning saved thee day!  It's unbelievable!
