Was in Montgomery Monday (9-25-2006). Paid $1.99 at the BP on the Shorter exit. Saw another Raceway station selling at same price in Montgomery.

Exited on US 29 to enter Auburn. Raceway there at $2.29. Those Raceways are about 20-25 miles apart, but gas is $.30 a gallon higher, about 15% higher. According to web, lowest prices in Lee County is $2.25.

Lots of gas stations in Auburn. I think station owners drive around and see competitor's gas prices and cut it a penny. Why dosen't this happen in Montgomery where prices do not seem to be "fixed"?

Could it be that student gas is bought by mom and dad, and they don't care what the price is as long as its convenient. Wonder if other college towns experience the same behvior?

Other ideas?
