Strange thing happened this past Saturday.

My son and 4 of his friends were fishing from the lake bed. My son was near a log and his friend noticed a snake curled up under the log. Well boys being boys, they got a stick and poked at it with no response. They then retrieved what appeared to be a dead three foot long copper head. After they inspected and handled the snake, they placed it on top of the log and continued fishing for about another hour. Walking back to the house one of the boys grabbed the snake and brought it up to the house to try and scare either me or my wife. I saw him coming up the hill so the scare tactic did not work. So we all talk about the snake and try to figure out what killed it. The boys swear that they did not do any thing to harm it. It seems strange because the snake is so limp and soft like it had just been killed. There is no evidence of trauma to the snake.

I go back in the house and am back to doing my work when I suddenly hear my wife screaming like a crazy person. I go outside on the back porch and the snake has jumped to life, coiled up and bit itself about 6 inches down it's neck. Scared the crud out of me and royally freaked all of us out. I did take the shovel to it after it came back to life. I normally would not do that.

Anyone ever heard of such. Obviously there was someone looking after us all as any one of us could have been bit by the thing.
