The water wars are heating up for sure. One clarification, we have had continuous water restrictions in metro Atlanta for as long as I can remember related to outdoor watering (every other day before 10am or after some time in the evening). So its not accurate to say they just recently implemented restrictions although we could have surely done more sooner.

The fact is that the Atlanta metro region uses huge amounts of water due to population, much more so than Alabama cities located in the ACT basin. No opinion on the fairness of that fact, it is just that way and one of the unfortunate impacts of the growth is the strain on water supplies. It seems to me that none of the southern states have done a very good job in preparing for a drought.
