In 1962 I was a Junior in High School but remember quite well the tension around those events.  When I finally did get my AF commission in 1967 my first assignment after tech school was at Cigli AB, Turkey, within a stone's throw of the missile site that was scrapped as a result of those negotiations.

I am old.  You must really be old, lol!
