I found an interesting approach with our ISP. They said no "vacation" plan for reduced rates. I ased can I just change my plan to basic and the answer was yes. I then asked if I cancel until I return what will it cost to reconnect. The response was 24.95. So, I canceled the service and upon returning I called and they said ...oh you are a new customer and qualify for all this free stuff plus rates at 1/2 the regular rate for the next 12 months.

I do not have Direct or Dish and so not understand their pricing. But, you may try these two approaches if they do not oferf a "vacation" plan. Another approach with Times Warner... they will shut down your cable and TV with a charge of $7.00 per month. You call them and they reconnect that day from their office.

Try these with Direct.
