Subject:   Question About Sarah
Date:   9/10/2008 7:42:41 AM

The question I have it whether it is important to your decision in November or are you just curious. I have several very successful, well adjusted friends that attended multiple schools so my gut tells me it is not a big issue but we each have our primary criteria. What is a big issue for me are her views on government and her actions as Governor.

Much of what I have seen I like and so far the ad hominum attacks on her and her family tend to make me think that there are no deal killers. Most of what the Obama campaign knows about her comes from a 60-page attack piece put together by the Democrat party in Alaska during her run as Governor. Like all politicians she has her share of detractors but an 80% approval rating in the state to me indicates her appeal crosses party lines. That is encouraging in this age of partisanship.

We wil see what Obama's 30 lawyers that they recently sent to Alaska to dig up dirt on her come up with. So much for him being the reformer as this is politics as usual in response to politics as usual. I was disappointed that Obama rejected McCain's offer to have a series of town hall meetings across the country as I think that would have been refreshing and give us more insight into how each might govern. I was also disappointed when Obama reneged on his promise to take Federal funding. I know his reason was the 527 money that the right would spend but the fact is that in the last election left-leaning 527s spent more, and that doesn't include unions that spend tens to hundreds of millions, almost all in support of the Democrat candidate. I really think he came to the conculsion that he would outraise his opponent and was convinced not to give away that advantage. I can't say that I blame him but it certainly is another fact that is at odds with his reformer moniker (which is important because that seems to be his primary argument for why we should elect him President).

I am no great fan of John McCain but I just see zero evidence that Obama is the reformer he claims to be and his resume to me doesn't seem very suited to the job. He is a very bright, articulate, accomplished man but I think he needs more time as a Senator and maybe a stint as the Governor of Illinois. These are dangerous times in the world and at home and I strongly believe that now is not the time to elect such an unknown commodity. I think had the Democrat party not believed during the primaries that the White House was a fait accompli cooler heads would have prevailed and Hillary would have been the nominee. If so, I think she would have beaten McCain fairly easily given the dynamics of this cycle. As it stands now, Obama to me still seems more likely than not to win but it is now at least a horse race.

As for me, I will vote for McCain-Palin. Good luck with your deliberations.
