I think the leadership needed still has to come from the White House, because over the past 8 years a GOP controlled congress has shown more interest in disposing of Obama's efforts to fix the healthcare system than supporting critical changes... or coming up with their own ideas.   It's pretty clear to everyone that conservatives think that healthcare is not a right, and should only be available to people who can afford it.  Everyone else will just have to go without & suffer the consequences for themselves &  their children.

We are going to have to come to terms with the idea that Medical Care cannot and should not be a primarily profit-driven part of the economy.   In many cases, loads of federal tax dollars go into the R&D of new pharmaceuticals which are then held as profit-centers for Big Pharma, protecting their margins and even encouraging them to ramp up their prices.    Why should an Eipi-Pen cost less in Canada than it does in the US when it is manufactured by a US company?

The GOP has opposed letting Medicare negotiate for lower prices from the drug companies, effectively shielding them from the advantages of bulk purchasing.... and the cost savings that could be passed on to US consumers.
