As of this writing there are at least four contractors on Lake Martin who are working with insurance companies and lake residents to remove damaged or sunken boats (and other debris) from the water. If you see these people working to remove these items, please stay away from the area. In some cases there will be divers in the water but in all cases boat wake is unwelcome and increases the danger. Again, we request all boaters to stay out of the damaged areas unless they have a legitimate need to be there.

If you are missing a boat or have found a boat, please call our office at (256) 329-2268 with a description of the boat, the registration number and hull identification number if possible. If you get the voice mail, please leave the information and someone WILL call you back. We have been able so far to match some people to their boats but there are still a lot that need to be identified.

With regard to looting or "treasure hunting", anyone caught by our officers removing items from the lake that do not belong to them will be arrested and charged appropriately. This does not include persons who have a right to remove their property or persons or companies working on someone's behalf or persons working to remove debris. In those cases we will make every effort to identify the legitimacy of that situation and ask for patience from those we do question. If you see something suspicious, please report it.

We are maintaining a daily presence on the lake until further notice. Over the past few days we have had as many as 8 officers covering the lake, including officers we pulled from other areas and wildlife and freshwater fisheries officers that were sent to assist. If you need us, the quickest way to get us dispatched is to call the Alexander City Trooper Post at (256) 234-2601.
