Being a true Dawg...this is hard...but, here goes...

As found on the internet…..

Want a non-biased fact-based evaluation on the recent history of the University of Alabama football program? Consider these numbers:

We’re at the midpoint of the 14th season since Alabama won the 1992 college football national championship. To put that in perspective … the freshmen on the current Alabama team were 3-4 years old in 1992. So, this basically covers all of the years about which any of those players can remember during their entire lifetime.

There are three major traditional opponents which Alabama has played in each of those seasons … Tennessee, LSU and Auburn. Bama has played those three teams a total of 40 times since winning the 1992 title. Alabama has won only 14 of those 40 games. Against LSU the record is 6-7, against Auburn 5-8, and against Tennessee 3-11.

How about the current decade … the seven years beginning with the 2000 season? Alabama has played 19 times against those three opponents. Alabama has won 4 and lost 15. The record against Tennessee is 2-5, against LSU is 1-5, and against Auburn is 1-5. Auburn has won four straight. LSU has won three straight and four of the past five.

For comparison, Auburn has played three major traditional opponents in each of those same 14 seasons … LSU, Georgia and Alabama. Auburn has also played those three teams a total of 40 times since 1992. Auburn’s record in those games is 24-15-1. Against LSU the record is 8-6, against Georgia is 8-4-1, and against Alabama is 8-5.

Auburn has played those same three opponents 19 times in the current decade. Since 2000, Auburn has won 13 and lost only 6 against those teams, having a winning record against them all. Against LSU the record is 4-3, against Georgia is 4-2, and against Alabama is 5-1.

So, despite delusional rantings to the contrary, with very few exceptions, it has been a long time since Alabama has been a consistent major factor in the Southeastern Conference or national picture, or since they have held the upper hand against any major SEC football program. Even if they could somehow upset LSU or Auburn to end the 2006 season, it would only provide a brief emotional lift, not changing the overall reality. Alabama football has now long been a middle-of-the-road program, usually better than the also-ran teams . although there were losses to Northern Illinois, Central Florida, Louisiana Tech, Hawaii and Minnesota during this time . but usually better than those teams. But, nowhere near an elite power program ... which is where Auburn, LSU and Tennessee have been annually located with few exceptions during the time since Alabama was last on top.
