The whole gold play relies on two events: 1) continued collapse of the dollar and 2) inflation. Have both of those occur and bingo, gold goes up. But its a natural resource subject to the law of supply and demand. As for me, it seems a reasonable hedge against inflation but switching over to gold or any other precious metal en masse seems to me too risky. Not that I think being a contrarian is always the way to go but it seems like in natural resources and real estate, the time to buy is when everyone is selling and vice versa....
