Part of the expansion has been the creation of new commands to deal with new threats and reorganization of the military.  I think the military is a microcosm of our population, so I think they are likely evenly divided along the political spectrum.  I don't think most are wiling to be outspoken, because they have seen what happens when you speak the truth to power.  I think there must be a lot of turmoil in the military today.
