LakeStone, you've already received my email response but maybe other posters might be interested.

The fish were likely striped bass that were the victims of a combination of things: high water temperature, low dissolved oxygen, and getting trapped in a low-oxygen zone from which they were unable to escape. It usually happens in July-August but we've had unusually hot temperatures for this time of the year.

Lake Watch volunteers do monthly testing in the Sandy Creek area...and in several other areas...and we've not detected anything that would account for fish kills. In fact, we're currently involved in a 7-month concentrated lake testing program that includes the Sandy Creek embayment. More on that later.
