Fished the American Fishing Tour out of Wind Creek. We blasted off along with the buddy tournament for the Alex City Rotary. I fished up river first trying some top water on some long points then soft plastics. I couldn't find a morning bite. I figured it would be a tough day. Since I did well in practice on the GP 8" lizard, I decided to make it my day's pattern. I caught lots of fish up and down the river, but all of them were small dinks. A couple came unbuttoned that were closer to the 2 lb class. The fish were one here, one there, one not over here, and so on. Then I got onto a windblown bank and found a school of spots working a ledge that dropped from 5' to 12'. I caught several in a row. Then I got to the end of the wind blown area and felt a sharp strong tap. After a couple of nice jumps I pulled in a 6.35 lb. largemouth to go with my dinks. In the same area I missed a couple of good sized fish that followed my lizard to the boat and tried to engulf it, but missed. I ended up with just over 9 lbs. and first place. Second was 8 something. Last month the GP lizard did me well on Lay, too. It's a great spring bait. They didn't like the 6" lizard as well as the 8" one. I also tried a crank bait for a while and caught a couple of hybrids, but no bass.
