It's unfortunate, but as technology continues to advance, some job categories will disappear forever. When I first started working, every office had at least 2 secretaries and a handful of clerks to keep the paper work moving. But once computers were introduced and we did more and more electronically, there just wasn't a need for these people.
The telephone company used to employ thousands of operators, installers, etc. Those jobs have gone away.
It makes sense to me that construction workers and real estate people would be finding less work right now... but then, the good ones always find work. Try to hire a really good builder, cabinet maker, etc. They are overwhelmed with work (at least around here) And have you tried to hire a landscaper recently? They don't seem to be suffering from a lack of work.
Of course, a lot of things slow down between now and Christmas. People don't want to start major projects or move heading into the holidays.
