No defense, just an explanation.  You always say you call it as you see it, but sometimes I think you must be wearing magnifying glasses.

I can't say I have heard any lame excuses, she just says what she says.  In my view, it sounds to me like she didn't think she did anything wrong.  Of all the people who hate Hilary, I have to say you are the only one I can think of that has been dwelling on this issue, and I don't think it is going to stick.  I think you are going to have find another issue.
