I don't believe this for a minute. This smells like an aide with an agenda or a low level flunkie who wants to feel important by being quoted on a non-attribution basis. Not so different either than those "senior" McCain aides who have been trashing Palin.

These are both educated men, and both are experienced politicians. I can pretty much guarentee you that they talked and it was likely cordial Neither has anything to gain by stirring the pot. When high level principles meet and there is no one else in the room, there likely were not even any notes that were passed out
as a result. Both are pragmatic if nothing else, and in Washington one doesn't generally slam any doors.
Nobody would be trashing the other.

As far as Drudge, he mostly operates on "rumit"
