No fightin' needed. The truth is, the sport of grilling is very subjective. I think a better idea would be a "flavor, texture, and technique" comparison event. I've tasted both ribs and chili that have won "cook-off" events that wouldn't get a second helping request at our table....not to say they were bad, they just didn't do it for us; different strokes. I've grilled and smoked on many devices over the years, and most decent products will provide good results with a competent chef. However, for MY taste, even the best chef can not compete grilling ribs or chicken if using a gas grill.....that's because I place a heavy emphasis on the quality of the smokey flavor (they also need to remain moist with good body while being fall-off-the-bone tender). I've seen very good results from both electric and gas smokers, but again it's a different flavor than cooking with coal.
I am always looking for new techniques, so a cooking "meet and greet" would be a fun event. I'm certainly not afraid to be judged, but there will be different opinions and I'm sure everyone would learn something. I've been grilling 3-4 times a week for over 30 years, and I'm always learning something new (same goes for my flying, LOL)
