After having his cabin burgled, my friend put two big bear traps in the back of his truck for a couple of weeks. He visited all of the local watering holes, showing off the traps and telling everyone that he was going to catch them next time.  He then chained one to a tree (not set) right in front of his cabin and took the other and put it in his garage at home.
